Cattle Decapitation -
Karma Bloody Karma |
California's vegetarian death metallers Cattle Decapitation originally started out as a gore grind band with one minute songs. The trio of vocalist Travis Ryan, guitarist Gabe Serbian and drummer DAve Astor released two independent albums; Human Jerky and Homovore before Serbian and Astor split to concentrate on the Locust. Bassist Troy Oftedal and guitarist Josh Elmore joined prior to Cattle Decapitation's signing with Metal Blade, and a pair of drummers (Creation Is Crucifixion's Michael Laughlin and now Unholy Ghost's J.R. Daniels).
The two previous Metal Blade releases; 2002's To Serve Man and 2004's Humanure, saw Cattle Decapitation convert to a brutal death metal band with normal length songs, but not losing their controversial lyrics and artwork. Karma Bloody Karma follows Humanure and To Serve Man in a similar vein, although the band adds more experimentation and technical playing than before. Also the artwork is just as thought provoking but much less offensive- by offensive I guess I mean carnivores. It's nice to hear Cattle Decapitation getting better and better, still improving on their fifth album.
