Paradise Lost -
Draconian Times |
As England's Paradise Lost get ready to release their DVD debut, Evolve, 1995's Draconian Times is being reissued with two bonus tracks. In addition, Believe in Nothing and Host will be reissued in August and October respectively, also with bonus tracks. I have always been a big fan of Paradise Lost and Draconian Times is by far my least favorite disc. Lost Paradise is a death metal classic, Gothic is such an innovative and landmark disc it ranks as high as Celtic Frost's Into the Pandemonium, Icon was straight forward but extremely memorable and when Draconian Times<>I> came out two years later it sounded too similar to Icon and not one song was as good as any song from Icon. Their recent efforts like Believe in Nothing and Host have been disappointment to most long time fans, although I feel songs like "Another Day" are among the best ever written (yes, it's that good). The bonus tracks, the energetic but forgettable "Fear" and a cover of the Smith's "How Soon is Now". Any other Paradise Lost disc is better than Draconian Times.

| - One of the best albums ever. - Superb album - Masterpiece - a.k.a. "when good bands go bad." - I believe this album review is a joke...isn't it? This album is a cornerstone for the goth metal scene and you simply rate it with a 6/10? - THE VERY BEST Paradise Lost album!!! - This review is no joke. Dave is right, this is weak compared to Gothic or Icon. In particular, the Hetfield-style vocals fail to impress or provide any emotion, just like on Metallica's Black album. |
