Grief -
Turbulent Times |
For nearly ten years, Grief were one of the leading purveyors of extreme sludgy doomcore. Grief formed after members of Disrupt called it a day and the band went on to release five full-lengths (including 1994's Come to Grief through Century Media) and countless splits and seven inches.
The band fits right in with the EyeHateGod/Iron Monkey/Buzzoven crowd. Turbulent Times is not a new studio album, rather it's an eleven-song offering of rare tracks. Songs from splits with Dystopia, 13, 16, Soilent Green, Suppression, and Corrupted are on CD for the first time. There's an unreleased epic track ("Depression") and two Come to Grief songs ("I Hate You" and "Earthworm"), which are different versions.
Most of the time, Grief play really slow, but they will sometimes break through the doldrums and pick up the pace. It's all raw, brutal, and noisy.

| - Bought it on strength of rave review. What were they listening to? Dullsville... - Great introduction to Grief. Friggin' heavy and slow (most of the time). |
