Thyrane -
Hypnotic |
Thyrane came into existence following Blastmor's decision to turn Thornmoon into a full band. Their debut was the 1998 e.p. Black Harmony, this led to a deal with Woodcut Records for their debut full length, Symphonies of Infernality. Thyrane kept heading from a melodic black metal band into electronic territory as they signed with Spikefarm Records for 2000's The Spirit of Rebellion. It appeared that Thyrane were destined for later greatness, thus expectations for Hypnotic were rather high. Unfortunately, Thyrane fail to deliver an inspiring result.
Much like the Kovenant, Thyrane prove that leaving their black metal roots behind is not a good idea. Blastmor's vocals still have that underground black metal style, but the music is surprisingly very dull and simplistic. His vocals sound out of place (maybe some distortion would've helped?), and the guitar riffs are very plain. There actually is very little electronic or keyboard embellishment. Some would compare Thyrane to And Oceans and Ram Zet, but those two bands are far more original and creative than what you hear on Hypnotic.
