Interview with Bingo
New York rockers Atomic Number 76 have burst on the local scene with
their self titled debut demo. They've been playing a lot of show in the area
and causing some excitement. Here is an interview with Bingo to find out more about Atomic Number 76.
Explain what the essence of your band is all about?
We were all in other bands, but none were exactly what any of us
really wanted to do, so we just started jamming and it sounded so
fucking good and was so fucking fun we quit the other bands.
Essentially weıre just playing music that we like.
Why Atomic Number 76 for a name?
Originally we were called Osmium which is a heavy metallic element.
When we found out there were a few other bands called Osmium, we
changed the name to the element's atomic number.
What are your current and future plans for the band?
We want to play live as much as possible. Playing here in NYC is
cool, but we want to hit some other cities. We'll probably be back
in the studio soon to record a few more tracks.
How do you like living and playing in New York City?
Living in this city is not always easy, but itıs worth it. We get
cross section of different people at the shows. Lately we've been
developing a core crowd of Hessian dirtbags like ourselves.
What's your music all about?
We're taking a no bullshit approach. Straight up rock. Music to
drink beer in the woods to.
What is your opinion of the job Mayor Bloomberg has done in New York
so far?
One of the mayor's top priorities is to ban smoking in bars while
unemployment is high and the economy is low. Mauro and I both
bartend and business has been shitty since 9/11. Bloomberg is
taking cash from my pocket.
If you could have a say in the rebuilding of the World Trade Center
area, what would you suggest?
I think that's something that should be left to people who were
directly affected. There should definitely be some sort of memorial.
With the bad economy, how do you manage to survive and live in New
York?
It keeps getting tougher. There comes a time when you just got to
switch from imports to Budweiser.
There's a strong underground scene of great rock bands here,
including your band of course, how do you think you can help get
this scene noticed and some attention?
Getting out there and playing. There are actually tons of little
scenes here that need to get together. It would be great to have
more promoters who really put together shows that make some sense
instead of just filling a night.
What are your plans for 2003?
Recording, touring, drinking and drugging.
What are you looking for in a potential record label?
We just want a label thatıs going to get us in the studio fast and
sends us out on the road.
