Talking with . . .   Negative Creeps

Interviewed 2/25/2003 by Brett VanPut

Negative Creeps Greek metallers Negative Creeps have released their debut full length, In Uterus Rebirth through Black Lotus Records and it is available through The End Records in America. It is a very surprising record as Negative Creeps run the gamut of metal styles; including plenty of hardcore, death metal, and black metal. I straight forward black metal tune can be preceeded by a groove laden nu metal track. Somehow it all works for Negative Creeps, as In Uterus Rebirth is a creative, never dull, album to listen to. Here is an introduction to this rising Greek metal band.

Do you think it is a good idea to be open minded about the music you play?
We do not think that being open minded, especially in metal music, is a wise thing to do. In fact it's a risk we take but we cannot make the same song for 10-12 times and then release a c.d. It is easier for people to categorize the band and the music but this is not identity. We believe that good songs give identity to bands.

How would you describe the listening experience of In Uterus Rebirth?
Hearing our record for the first time it may be surprising. You will not be able to describe the music with one term such us death metal or black metal, you'll have to say more words. Sure it's going to be confusing if you see this in one dimension. It's simplier if you think it as a record with modern metal music that it's gettig more extreme as the tracks increase.

How does it feel to get your debut out finally?
We feel happy and proud. We finaly signed a record contract and our first album is released, our music it's going to be heard from many many people.

How has the band changed since the first release?
Our playing and composing skills have not changed much. Our recording skills are better now. We may re-record songs from Satancore for future release.

How would you describe the music of Negative Creeps?
Musically speaking it's simply metalcore with black metal but for us is like breaking some rules because it's not expected to put hardcore and pure black metal on the same record.

How is it playing with bands like Rotting Christ and Septic Flesh?
They are really big bands here so we played in front a lot of people but they are also very nice guys and we have lots of fun when we play together.

What is the Greek metal scene like?
The Greek scene could be a good one but is very small. After all Greece is a small country. You can not do many things in metal if you stay here.

What is the secret of your ability to be so diverse?
Our secret is that we are in fact two bands with another one joining us soon.

What is the best aspect of living in Greece?
The food, weather, women, everything is nice except music.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Not much, we are writing new songs and we plan to play live as much as we can.

Final comments?
I'm really sorry for my English.
