Interview with vocalist and guitarist Rob Soul
Law Of The Plague frontman Rob Soul gained my respect when he was a guitarist in the band Ordained, which released two albums in the late nineties. He is a hard worker, honest man, and someone who takes a lot of pride in his metal. He now has a new band, Law Of The Plague, and their debut three song demo, The First Infection, is a kick in the ass for metal. The band is preparing their full length debut for later this year, in the meantime here is Rob to introduce us to the Plague.
How do you feel about your three song demo?
The First Infection demo was released with the initial purpose of opening the ears of the public to what Law Of The Plague has in store for the future, and so far the demo has served that purpose well.
When will the full length debut come out and how does it compare to the demo?
The c.d. will be released sometime in 2002, as long as the process is not hindered by someone’s vindictive God, or any of his terrorist associates. Compared to the demo, the plan is for the full-length c.d. to sound better, look better and obviously, be much longer.
Why did you leave Ordained and start Law Of The Plague?
The blueprints for Law Of The Plague were drafted way before I left Ordained. An initial test strain of Law Of The Plague was already circulating in ’97 under the title of, Just a Goddamn demo. It took four years for this demo to connect me with the right musical deviants to make Law Of The Plague happen. During those years I was busy with Ordained, but too many things were not right for me in that band. I decided it was time to focus all of my energy on spreading the plague.
How can Law Of The Plague make an impact on the crowded independent metal scene?
Law Of The Plague is an unrelenting virus. Some of the influences may be apparent, but this plague incorporates a variety of styles to produce a strain that will stand apart from the rest.
How are things going with Sinternational Records? What are your plans for this year?
Sinternational Records has been a great outlet for this band. Because of Sinternational Records, our music has been reaching an audience all over the world. The plan for this year is to unleash the first full length strain of Law Of The Plague onto the masses, and then we plan to spend the rest of the year promoting the plague through live shows.
You have always been a hard working musician, excellent promoter, and helpful person- explain what makes you the person you are.
I work hard because I am on a mission and success can only be achieved through persistent hard work. My promotional skills have derived from determination and necessity; if no one else will do it then I will do it myself, no matter what it costs. As far as being a helpful person, I think that all is based on personal opinion; but if anyone considers me helpful I think that comes down to one reason, I believe in being real. What comes around goes around.
Why is metal such an important part of your life?
When growing up, metal was always my shield and my place of refuge. Now, metal is my outlet of aggression. That is important to me.
What are your short and long range plans for Law Of The Plague?
Why is it important to always write new, different songs and not simply rehash the same ideas over and over?
I like so many different styles and variations of metal that I could never stick with just one particular style. The spice of life is variety. I believe in progression and change, and without the two you have stagnancy. To me, most everything gets old at some point. If you stay behind, you get left behind.
Explain why you have a dynamic stage presence? What can fans expect from you live?
There is so much bullshit happening around me on a daily basis, that I get a lot of angst and rebellious energy built up inside of me. On the stage, I can unleash all of that shit. It’s a total release. As far as Law Of The Plague is concerned, fans should come to our show expecting the unexpected.
Any final comments?
I urge everyone to visit Sinternational Records at www.sinternational.net to download The First Infection demo and to join the SINLIST. It is necessary to be aware of Law Of The Plague. All citizens are potential targets.
